Sophos, a global leader in next-generation cybersecurity, recently announced Sophos ZTNA, the only zero trust network access (ZTNA) offering that fully integrates with an industry-leading, next-generation endpoint solution – Sophos Intercept X – providing advanced endpoint protection and zero trust network access with a single agent. Sophos ZTNA introduces a transparent and scalable security model for connecting users and devices to applications and data, improving and simplifying protection against ransomware and other advanced cybersecurity threats.
Sophos also published new research, “Windows Services lay the groundwork for a Midas Ransomware Attack,” shining light on the importance of ZTNA. The research details how attackers were able to spend nearly two months undetected in a target’s environment, taking advantage of limited access controls and network and application segregation, which would have been better protected with ZTNA. The attackers further leveraged no-longer-used “ghost” remote access tools to move laterally, target and compromise other machines, create new accounts, install back doors, and exfiltrate data, before releasing the Midas ransomware.
Through its unique integration with Sophos Intercept X, including Sophos Extended Detection and Response (XDR), Sophos Managed Threat Response and other solutions using its technology, Sophos ZTNA removes the complexities of managing multiple vendor products and agents, and provides end-to-end protection for endpoints, users, their identities, and the applications and networks that they connect to. As part of the Sophos Adaptive Cybersecurity Ecosystem, Sophos ZTNA shares real-time threat intelligence with other solutions and automatically responds to threats. Working together, the solutions can better identify active threats and assess device health, so compromised and non-compliant devices can be quickly isolated.
“Many traditional remote access solutions, like remote desktops and IPsec and SSL-VPN, provide strong encryption, but very little else in defense against modern threats. We see attackers increasingly exploiting these limitations, stuffing credentials into RDP and VPNs to gain access to victim networks, and then moving freely once inside, all too often culminating in costly data theft and ransomware incidents,” said Joe Levy, chief technology and product officer at Sophos. “People, applications, devices, and data aren’t constrained to offices anymore – they’re everywhere, and we need more modern ways to secure them. Zero trust is a very effective cybersecurity principle, and ZTNA embodies it in a practical, easy to use way, ensuring that users have secure access to only the resources that they need.”
Sophos ZTNA micro-segments networks to protect against intrusions, lateral movement and data theft. It constantly authenticates user identities with multiple factors, and validates device health, delivering tighter access controls for users and fewer footholds for cybercriminals. Unlike VPNs that provide broad network access, Sophos ZTNA eliminates implied trust and only authorizes user access to specific applications and systems on the network. By trusting nothing and verifying everything, Sophos ZTNA improves protection, simplifies security management for IT managers, and creates a smooth experience for remote workers.

LENOVO Opens First Experience Store at SM Megamall Cyberzone
TECNO, a premium smartphone brand focused on emerging markets, is working with BBC Storyworks, BBC Studios’ in-house commercial content studio, who have created a short film The Future Lens: Looking Ahead With TECNO to explore the meaning of mobile camera innovation.
The video showcases TECNO’s inclusive mobile camera technology for each user through its unique ‘glocalization’ strategy, detailed the work that has been done to better reflect different communities. In the piece, TECNO explains how they spotted and solved gaps between fast-developing mobile camera technologies and consumers’ actual needs in various situations so as to best meet the unique needs of local users, environments, and cultures.
For example, to optimise portrait imaging quality, TECNO has built an enormous database that covers seven skin types and 76 skin categories at its TAVIOS Laboratory. So everyone, regardless of how they look, gets to enjoy cameras that know how to make them look their best. In the photo-taking process, TECNO’s progressive algorithms will automatically gather information from users’ environments, recognizing various opportunities for image enhancement. Sophos Launch Sophos Switch Series
Budding Filipino filmmaker, Jo Serrano, has just released her first short film, “Boracay: Beyond The White Beach”, which viewers can watch in TECNO Mobile’s official Facebook and YouTube pages. The documentary-style film was produced in collaboration with top local director, Paul Soriano, and his team at TEN17P. Jo was named the Grand Winner of the TECNO Mobile Movie Masters Program last December, winning a Php 300,000 grant, and the opportunity to work on this movie with the boutique film company.
The Movie Masters Program was launched by TECNO Mobile in 2021, with a short film competition that was open to amateur Filipino filmmakers. Finalists were tasked to create original videos using the CAMON 18 Premier smartphone, highlighting moving moments from everyday life. In her winning Movie Masters entry, “Bukidnon An Eco Adventure" wherein Jo showcased raw and authentic moments that she experienced on a trip to the beautiful province of Bukidnon.
Making Boracay: Beyond The White Beach according to Jo Serrano, “Boracay: Beyond The White Beach” was inspired by the struggles she faced during the pandemic. The documentary-style film begins with the protagonist heading to the island of Boracay to escape. While there, she encounters locals who open up to her about their struggles, and how they cope with the pandemic.
“I came to a point in my life where my stress, anxiety, and depression caused me to nearly quit being a creator because the travel industry has been severely affected by the pandemic,” shared Jo. “It's a struggle that most of us can relate to, how the pandemic has affected us.” With this as her film’s theme, Jo aimed to show viewers that there is always hope. “I want my viewers to see that regardless of the struggles that we face during the pandemic there is always a silver lining and we all have to be steady in the face of challenges,” she said.
When asked about her process in making this film, Jo replied, “Making a documentary is a very un-expecting experience. Since you are dealing with real people and real experiences, you wouldn’t know what happens next.”
Shooting with the Movie Master CAMON 18 Premier Just like her entry to the Movie Masters Program, Jo filmed “Boracay: most of the scenes were shot using a CAMON 18 Premier smartphone. Jo considers CAMON 18 Premier a good starting camera for anyone who is interested in filmmaking but does not have the budget for expensive gear. Jo said, “Its in-body gimbal feature is a big help when you are always on the go. As a traveler you need to carry light gears with you.”
Direk Paul Soriano agrees that CAMON 18 Premier is great for budding filmmakers, calling it the perfect tool for capturing moments and telling stories. In a recent Instagram video, he shared that his favorite CAMON 18 Premier feature is the Stabilized Gimbal Camera, which allows people to capture handheld shots that look nice, crisp and stable. He also said that this smartphone is something he wishes he could have had when he was starting out years ago making home videos, short films, and music videos.

Through the Movie Masters Program, aspiring filmmakers were given a venue to tell their stories. In his message during the awarding ceremony, Direk Paul invited more filmmakers and creators to take advantage of opportunities like this.
